Top Five Weapons to Wield in Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel
Dark Souls 3 is full of amazing weapons that give you a new way to slay your enemies each time you meet them. It could be a Katana, a greatsword or a magic spell. It really doesn’t matter. Dark Souls 3 has a way of pushing our fantasies beyond the edge. The Ashes of Ariandel comes with some interesting weapons that will definitely make the gameplay more fun. Here are my top five weapons and how to unlock them in the game.
All the New Weapons in Ashes of Ariandel DLC
The Follower Sabre
This cutlass-like weapon is mighty and violent. Though it is a classified under curved swords, it will give you the basic moves of a straight sword and additional uppercuts for extra damage. It can also give you access to the Prying Wedge weapon art, a series of two singing uppercuts that dish out the highest damage in the game so far. You can supercharge the Follower Sabre with magic, lighting, spells and so forth to give it more strength.
To get the Follower Sabre, head over to the Ariandel Chapel bonfire in the Painted World of Ariandel. Once there, turn around and head over to the wooden rope bridge you just crossed and slash it’s ropes so that it drops to the ravine below. Go down the collapsed bridge and move among the roots to the bottom. There you will have to kill a Follower who is attacking you with spears before turning to find the Follower Sabre nestled against the mountain on some roots.
The Onyx Blade
The Onynx Blade is perfect for players who want something heavy that will deliver heavy blows during melee combat and still give them the freedom to dish out spellls at will. The Onynx blade is not only fast but also works with the Elfriede’s Blackflame weapon art that gives it flame coating that will give fire and dark damage to the opponent and still do some damage through enemy defenses.
To get the Onyx Blade, cross over the wooden rope bridge to the Ariandel Chapel and make sure that you speak with Sir Vilhelm before going into the Chapel to meet Sister Friede. You will have to move through the graveyard underneath the chapel and meet Sir Vilhelm who will attack you. Defeat him to claim the Onyx Blade.
This is a first of its kind in the Dark Souls 3 arsenal. The Valorheart is all about playing defensive and going on the counter attack once your opponent is at their weakes. You can keep your shield on your back until you are ready to use two hands on the weapon. You can then mete some shield bashes and slashes that stagger and damage your opponent. The weapon art here is the Lion Stance. This lets you perform strong thrust attacks without lowering your defense and stunning your enemies with shield bash.
To get the Volorheart, kill on of the NPCs in the Painted World of Ariandel. Follow the route you took when searching for the Follower Sabre. This time, descend all the way to the bottom and wander the huge area covered in flowers. Approaching the ruins will trigger the boss fight and defeating your enemy will have them drop the Valorheart.
The Crow Talons are so far my favorite. They’re razor sharp and easy to carry around. The claws belong to the Corvian Knights who use speed and ferocity to slash an enemy till they bleed them dry. The good thing about the Crow Talons is their speed and ability to unless a series of slashes and stabs within no time. The Raptor Flurry move allows you to execute uninterrupted combos for maximum damage.
To get your claws, head over to the Crovian Settlement bonfire before running across the bridge right ahead of you. Once across, go up towards the graveyard to meet the Corvian Knight. Kill him before going through the alley way behind the houses and looking for a ladder to take you to the rooftop. Once on the rooftop, you will see the Crow Talons on the roof across.
Friede’s Great Scythe
Finally, we have the Friede’s Great Scythe. If your strategy draws strongly from Dexterity and Intelligence, this is a must have. You get wide swings with a one hand or two hand grip and the results are always devastating in melee combat. It’s performance will go through the roof once you use the Elfriede’s Stance. You can also conjure an extra scythe to your left hand and swing both weapons in circles to slash and kill anything around you. The weapon can also lay a magic frost path that hurts anyone in its way. Just swipe forward on the blade.
To get Friede’s Great Scythe, complete the entire Ashes of Ariandel DLC and kill the last boss. The Soul of Sister Friede reward can be exchanged with Ludleth of Courland for the weapon and an extra 10,000 souls.
