How to get turnips in Animal Crossing

Animal Crossing

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, turnips are considered as valuable assets. There are many ways to get rich in the game. You can sell a bunch of stuff like butterflies, fruits, or fish. They do not fetch as much in the market but if sold continuously, they will rake in a profit. Turnips, on the other hand, are a sure deal when it comes to growing your fortune.

The only way to get your hands on turnips is through purchasing them. They can’t be grown as compared to other plants in the game. Different versions of the game like Animal Crossing: City Folk or Animal Crossing: Wild World, have given players the option of planting red turnips.

Sadly, they are not available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons thus players do not need to worry about planting the turnips that they purchase.

You will need to unlock the Nook’s Cranny so that you can purchase turnips. To do so, you will have to settle your first loan with Tommy Nook. After that, proceed to Resident Services where Tommy Nook will ask for your assistance in building a small shop – the Nook’s Cranny – on the island.

For this task, you will need to collect 30 pieces for each of the following items: wood, softwood, hardwood, and iron. Deliver them to Tommy Nook for construction to begin. The Nook’s Cranny will be completed in a day.

A character by the name Daisy Mae will, in turn, visit your town on Sundays. She can only be seen from 4:00 am to 12:00 pm. This is the only day you can purchase turnips. She sells them in bundles of 10. The price usually varies from 90 to 110 Bells. It is advisable to purchase them at a lower price so that you can sell them at a higher price. You can purchase as many turnips as you want.

Due to the varying price of turnips in Animal Crossing, each player may be presented with a different price. For instance, one player may be able to purchase turnips for 92 Bells each, while another has a price of 95 Bells each. You’re allowed to buy turnips when visiting another player’s island if they have access to a better price than you do.

How to store turnips

Turnips cannot be stored in the same manner as other fruits and vegetables in this game. You can store them in the house, but you will have to toss them down on the floor. This is the safest method. But if you bought many turnips and your house is small, you will have to resort to storing them outside. This is a bit risky as anyone can come and pick them up when they are outside.

You will have to fence your house so that you can prevent this. A fence can be purchased from the Nook Stop in Resident Services. You can also find a spot on your island to use as a storage pen. Once you clear the spot and toss your turnips on the ground, fence it so that you can prevent them from being stolen.

Storing turnips doesn’t prevent them from rotting. They have a life span of 7 days. The good thing, is they are still useful even when they are spoilt. Rotten turnips attract ants and flies. You can sell the ants and flies for additional money. You will also need them when building a museum.

For the turnips that are still ripe, you will need to sell them before Daisy Mae comes back to your town. Every Monday after your encounter with her, Tommy Nook and his brother will start purchasing turnips from you. They will come every day except on Sunday.

They will alternate their prices twice in a day. This leaves you with a pattern indicating how the sales will look like for the rest of the week. You might make a fortune easily or be forced to sell the turnips at a lower price than you bought them.
