How to Get Honey from a Beehive in Minecraft?

Beehive

You can only find honey in two places in Minecraft, either in a bee nest or a beehive. A bee nest occurs naturally on trees and allows bees to make honey. Bees collect pollen from flowers and bring it in the nest. This, in turn, fastens the honey-making process. The color of the bee nest changes its texture to indicate that the honey is ready to be harvested.

Bees are neutral mobs i.e. they only attack when they are provoked. However, they become aggressive when you try to come close to their nest. The more the numbers of bees present, the more lethal they are. Once a bee stings you, it dies and its sting is poisonous. However, honey can be used as a cure.

On the other hand, a beehive can be crafted to function as a bee nest. When you combine a honeycomb and wooden blocks, you get a beehive. To get bees to use it as their station for making honey you will have to search for bees.

Bees are very rare in Minecraft. They spawn in three regions only: flower forest, plains, and sunflower plains. When you find the bees, place your beehive on either birch or oak trees. Bees are prone to create nests on either of the trees above.

You can also attract homeless bees in the wild using a flower. They will follow you, and in turn, you can lead them to where you have put your beehive. And they will it make it their nest. In due time they will collect pollen and make honey as they would in a bee nest. When the texture of the beehive changes, you can harvest the honey.

This article will guide you on how to harvest honey without ending up poisoned. Two solutions minewill help you with this predicament.

Solution 1: Using an empty glass bottle

  1. Obtain an empty glass bottle from the brewing stand in an igloo basement.
  2. Wait for the bees to take pollen to the bee nest or beehive.
  3. Every time they do the step above, honey increases by one level.
  4. When the honey reaches the fifth level, the texture of the beehive or bee nest changes. Their homes will show golden nectar dripping from its holes.
  5. The step above indicates that the honey is ready for harvesting.
  6. Start a campfire below the beehive or bee nest. The smoke makes the bees calm.
  7. Press ‘use item’ when you have the empty glass bottle in your hand while you are next to the beehive or bee nest.
  8. You will have a honey bottle.
  9. You can now repeat these steps and collect as much honey as you want.

Solution 2: Using a dispenser

You can find a dispenser in every jungle temple. We will save you the trouble of finding a jungle temple and in turn show you how to make one. All you need are cobblestones, a bow, and Redstone dust. Combine them and you will get a dispenser. You can use it to harvest honey as follows:

  1. Place the dispenser below the beehive or bee nest.
  2. The presence of a dispenser will calm the bees. No need to light a campfire.
  3. Its output should be pointing towards the beehive or bee nest.
  4. Put empty glass bottles inside the dispenser. The maximum amount of empty glass bottles you can put is 9.
  5. Place a Redstone comparator below the beehive or bee nest.
  6. You can make one by combining the following items: a Redstone torch, Nether quartz, and a stone.
  7. The comparator will be sending a signal to the dispenser according to how much honey is available.
  8. When the honey reaches the fifth level, the dispenser will automatically start collecting honey bottles and storing them.
  9. You can now remove the full honey bottles and place other empty glass bottles in the dispenser to continuously harvest honey.
